Student answer (Band 6.5)
Writing Task 1.
Dear John
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to requst you regarding our extension of six-month agreement for renting an appartment which we signed five months ago. Due to some financial issues we wanted to stay much longer period in your house and would like to have approval from yourside.
To begin with, Inittiattly Initialy, we have decided to live in rental appartment for about six months only. However, now we are planning to live about one year here at your house. Due to this sudden change of mind we are hoping to live longer, so that we can achieve achieve all the tasks and complete all our plans in this year.
Therefore, we are experting the permission, to extend our stay at your appartment. Beside One of the main reasons behind the unexpected change of our plan, is mainly due our financial conditions. My husband and I trying hard to be able to get high paying job so that we can buy our own home for our family.
Moreover, we genuinty consider this house lucky for us, as we got our first job in Canada when we had moved here. Due to these reasons, we decided to live for few more months.
Apart from this, I wanted to bring some issues regarding room facilities. From last week we are facing trouble due to air conditioning, we are unable to sleep due to loud sound producing by the air conditioner. I hope you will take appropriate measures to repair the faulty facilities and would help us out by giving extention in lease.
Thankyou for your time and consideration.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: you specified the desired extension, explained the change in plans, and reported the air conditioning issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the explanation for the change in plans is slightly repetitive, as you mention financial issues in both the second and third paragraphs. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides distinct information to avoid redundancy. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the request is well-supported by the context provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'these reasons' which refers back to multiple points. Improving the variety of linking phrases and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'extension', 'agreement', and 'consideration'. However, there are several spelling errors ('requst', 'appartment', 'Inittiattly', 'genuinty') and word choice inaccuracies ('experting' instead of 'expecting', 'producing' instead of 'produced'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'we wanted to stay much longer period' (missing article), 'we are experting the permission' (incorrect verb choice), and 'From last week we are facing trouble' (incorrect tense usage). While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in articles, verb forms, and sentence construction prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage to improve your accuracy.
