Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: stating the desired extension length, explaining the change in plans, and reporting a problem with a housemate. However, the development of these points is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding your job is clear, but the section regarding the housemate is quite brief and lacks a formal tone suitable for a letter to a landlord. Additionally, the sentence 'So, I would like to tell you that if.' is incomplete and leaves the reader confused. To improve, ensure that every point is fully developed into a complete, coherent thought and that the tone remains consistently professional throughout the correspondence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'However' and 'So' to link sentences. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors, such as the incomplete sentence at the end of the second paragraph. The transition between the request for an extension and the complaint about the housemate is a bit abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences are complete and logically connected to one another to improve the overall progression of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your main points effectively. You use some relevant terms such as 'agreement', 'lease', and 'contract'. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choice or collocation, such as 'continue the staying' instead of 'extend my stay' and 'too many time' instead of 'too often'. There is also a lack of variety in your word choice, with repetitive use of simple verbs. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid translating directly from your native language, which can lead to unnatural phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder clarity. For example, 'my contract was just over last months' should be 'my contract ended last month', and 'one years' should be 'one year'. There are also issues with article usage ('in company') and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct tense usage will significantly improve your score.
