Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly stated your desire to extend the lease, explained your situation as a student, and described the refrigerator issue. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. To improve, you could provide more specific details about the length of the extension you are proposing (e.g., 'an additional six months') rather than a vague 'more than a year'. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the level of detail and professional polish expected for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, you rely heavily on 'so' and 'and' to connect ideas. There is a lack of varied transition words or phrases to link sentences more smoothly. Additionally, the paragraphing is a bit inconsistent, and the flow between the request to stay and the complaint about the fridge could be improved with better signposting or transition phrases to make the shift in topic feel more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite simple. You use basic terms like 'doing graduation', 'all facilities', and 'not working properly'. While these convey your meaning, they do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'our area is also providing us all facilities' (better: 'the neighborhood offers excellent amenities') and 'my all food got damaged' (better: 'my groceries were spoiled'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific vocabulary related to renting and maintenance.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including issues with articles ('the fridge'), verb tenses ('i am leaving here from last 5 months'), and punctuation (inconsistent capitalization of 'i'). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they often contain errors that slightly impede the flow, such as 'because of that my all food got damaged as you know i am living alone so it is difficult for me make food again'. Improving your control over basic sentence construction and proofreading for capitalization and articles will significantly improve your score.
