Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the issue with the air conditioning. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the explanation of the change in plans, which is mentioned twice in a slightly confusing manner. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord, though the structure could be more concise. All parts of the task are addressed, but the clarity of the explanation regarding the change in plans could be improved to better meet the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the flow of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the transition 'Excluding all the the Nature has another plan for me,' which is confusing and lacks logical connection to the previous sentence. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas within the paragraphs is slightly disjointed. While the overall message is understandable, the management of cohesion needs more variety and precision to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their needs effectively. There are some spelling errors, such as 'writting,' 're-new,' 'oppurtunity,' and 'appartment.' Additionally, some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'listening back from you' instead of 'hearing back from you.' The range of vocabulary is limited to basic, functional language. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common words related to housing and formal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'I am writting this to requesting you,' 'I am not able to followed my plan,' and 'the problems solved' (missing auxiliary verb). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to verb forms and sentence structure is required.
