Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is Vishal, I am a resident of apartment number 105 of your building. My agreement started five months ago, and it is a 6-month lease, but I would now like to stay for another six-month in the same unit.
The reason to extend my rental is my job. Currently, I am working as an insurance agent, it was a contract job. However, because of my excellent performance, they have offered me a full time-position, so I have decided to stay here longer than expected. This apartment is very close to my work location, it is on a one-minute walking distance. Moreover, it has all the amenities and the surroundings are beautiful and quite.
I love this apartment, the only problem is, water leakage in the kitchen sink. It is damaging the floor and the inside of the cabinet. I would really appreciate if you will send the plumber to fix this issue, otherwise the apartment is in great condition.
I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Vishal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. The ideas are clearly presented and developed, providing sufficient context for the request. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the information is relevant and well-organized, meeting all the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which aids readability. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'otherwise' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the letter flows smoothly from the introduction to the conclusion. The structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, with some good collocations like 'full-time position' and 'great condition'. There are minor errors, such as 'quite' instead of 'quiet' and 'another six-month' instead of 'another six months'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks a wider variety of more sophisticated or precise vocabulary that would elevate the response to a higher band. However, the language used is natural and fits the context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical slips, such as comma splices (e.g., '...insurance agent, it was a contract job') and minor errors in verb tense or agreement (e.g., 'I would really appreciate if you will send' should be 'would appreciate if you would send'). Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the majority of sentences are clear and grammatically sound.
