Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ravi,
Hope you are doing well.
I want to shed light on the apartment, which I want to rent for more than six months As in the five months ago, I had an agreement with you regarding six month renting apartment , now i have changed my mind to stay 1 year more. The reasons for that it is just stone throw away from my workplace and also Freschco which is just vicinity of my apartment, where we can easily do grocery by just walking distance. So it acts as time-saver which can not be ignored.
Apart from that there are some issues in the apartment which leads to problem such as leakage problem in the kitchen, fire-alarm is not properly working. Kindly request to sort out these issues as soon as possible.
Thank you for giving me time and considerations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reasons for the change, and the maintenance issues. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of ideas. While the purpose is clear, the explanation regarding the apartment issues is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the impact of the maintenance problems and ensure the letter meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a more thorough development of your points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your request. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Apart from that' and 'So'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'As in the five months ago'. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, and the transition between the request for extension and the maintenance issues could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring better sentence-to-sentence connection would improve your score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message, such as 'vicinity', 'time-saver', and 'agreement'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'shed light on the apartment' (which is not the correct idiom here) and 'Freschco which is just vicinity of my apartment'. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'Reagrds'. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is appropriate for a formal request letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'As in the five months ago, I had an agreement' and 'The reasons for that it is just stone throw away'. These errors, while not preventing understanding, are noticeable and occur throughout the text. You need to work on subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction to ensure your writing is more accurate. Focusing on proofreading for basic errors will help you achieve a higher band.
