Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change, and the mention of apartment issues. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding the pregnancy is clear, but the request for the air conditioner and the mention of lighting issues are slightly abrupt. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord, although the opening and closing salutations are slightly inconsistent with the context. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the ideas could be expanded with more detail to achieve a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Now', 'So', and 'because', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure occasionally hinders the flow, such as in the opening paragraph where the phrasing is slightly awkward. Paragraphing is present and appropriate for a letter format, contributing to the overall coherence of the message.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their needs effectively. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'held' instead of 'occurred', 'do care for' instead of 'take care of', and 'fit air conditionar' instead of 'install an air conditioner'. Spelling errors like 'somewere', 'conditionar', and 'fen' (fan) are present. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they indicate a limited range of vocabulary and some lack of precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with articles ('the apartment which renting'), verb forms ('my wife expecting'), and sentence construction ('I will appreciate you if you are agree with this things'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors means that the grammatical control is not consistent enough for a higher band score.
