Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sharma,
I hope you doing well, I am writing this letter regarding to discuss about the extend lease agreement of the apartment.
Firstly, I wish to stay in this apartment for more 8 to 10 months. Previously, our lease agreement was six-month. If any chances you allowed me to live here for more longer period like at least 1 year.
Secondly, the main reason I want to stay more here is my job. Because recently I got a job in the Walmart which is located just stone's throw away from this apartment. Before, I was thinking when my study finished then I move to another place for find better job in my field but I have changed my mind. The second reason I want to live here because of the quite and peaceful atmosphere. Moreover, this location is very close to groceries store, public transportation and also from my work so it's very convenient for my daily tasks.
Lastly, I would say your apartment is very good and better amenities but the main problem is in the bathroom because there is continuously water leakage in the shower. So if you could repair this problem I would be grateful.
Yours faithfully,
Hetkumar Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly stated the desired extension period, explained the change in your plans due to your new job and the apartment's convenience, and reported the bathroom maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To improve, ensure that your request for the extension is more direct and grammatically precise. While you covered all requirements, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive in the second paragraph, which could be streamlined for better impact.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You used transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through your points. However, some of the cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are occasional issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the transition between the job explanation and the apartment's location. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, including some idiomatic expressions like 'stone's throw away'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'extend lease agreement' instead of 'extension of the lease agreement' and 'quite' instead of 'quiet'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations. Expanding your vocabulary to include more formal business-related terms would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope you doing well' (missing auxiliary verb), 'If any chances you allowed me' (incorrect conditional structure), and 'there is continuously water leakage' (incorrect adverb usage). While the meaning remains clear, these persistent errors in verb tense, word order, and sentence construction prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and basic sentence patterns will significantly improve your accuracy.
