Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task: the desired extension length, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issue. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the promotion is brief, and the request for the extension could be phrased more professionally. While the task is fully addressed, the expression of these ideas lacks the depth and polish required for a higher band score. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the reader is left in no doubt about the writer's intentions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'However' (though 'However' was not used, the transition 'Moreover' was) helps to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Thanks for the Reconsider'. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The overall structure is coherent, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.0 or 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'appraise you' (instead of 'inform you'), 'half year lease' (instead of 'six-month lease'), and 'maintenous' (a misspelling of 'maintenance'). The phrase 'leakage in Kitchen Tab' is also imprecise. While the student manages to convey the necessary information, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors in word formation and collocation are noticeable, which prevents a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'My parents also visiting here' (missing auxiliary verb), 'leakage in Kitchen Tab' (missing articles), and 'call plumber to repaired it' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting. The student demonstrates an attempt at complex structures, but control over these is inconsistent, which is characteristic of the Band 6.0 level.
