Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I'm writing to you to inform you that Five months ago, I started renting an apartment on a six -month agreement but I want to stay in the apartment longer than we originally agreed.
I want to renew it for another six months as I engaged permanently in the job. It is near by my apartment, and I feel difficulties if I move from this apartment. I like and loved this apartment which is quite and peaceful. I always paid the rent on time.
I also want to tell you about the problem i have facing in the apartment is leaking the water from the tap. I feel inconvenient to use the sink properly due to water leakage . I hope you understand my problem and help in the maintenance of the tap.
I hope you would consider my renewable agreement for another six months. I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
Yours sincerely,
Radhika

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation for the change in plans is brief, and the description of the maintenance issue could be more precise to ensure the landlord understands the urgency. To reach a higher band, you should expand slightly on your reasons and provide more descriptive detail regarding the apartment's condition.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of your request. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I also want to tell you' and 'I hope you understand'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. The transition between the request for renewal and the mention of the maintenance issue is abrupt. Using a wider variety of linking words or phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this') would improve the overall cohesion and make the letter feel more natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. Phrases like 'renew the agreement' and 'maintenance of the tap' are appropriate. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I engaged permanently in the job' (should be 'I have secured a permanent job') and 'I feel difficulties' (should be 'I would face difficulties'). Additionally, 'I like and loved' is redundant. Improving your control over collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'the problem i have facing' (should be 'the problem I am facing'), 'is leaking the water' (should be 'is a water leak'), and 'consider my renewable agreement' (should be 'consider my request for a renewal'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around hyphens and capitalization of 'I'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
