Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Eaves by Avalon community,
Hope you all are doing well. I would like to bring your attention that my prior leasing agreement is going to end soon and I'm willing to extend it further 12 months. I have been here for 5 months and I really like the neighbourhood and harmony in the community.
Recently my manager has informed that my job contract is extended further 12 moths, Initially I thought to move to another apartment but after the job extension I have decided to stay here and I wonder If I get a chance to stay here further and please let me know the further information on it as soon as possible. The community is very convenient and easy commute for my office and I like the quick maintenance and response from the team all the time.
I would like to address one issue, recently I have been observed that rapid growth of the bugs underneath the sink and some hidden place, Please schedule the pest control treatments for this issue.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task: the duration of the extension, the reason for the change in plans, and the maintenance issue. The tone is appropriate for a formal request to a landlord or management company. The ideas are clearly presented, and the purpose of the letter is immediately obvious. To reach a higher band, the development of the ideas could be slightly more detailed; for instance, providing a specific date for the lease renewal or describing the maintenance issue with more precision would enhance the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the different points, which helps the reader follow the flow of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. Phrases like 'Initially I thought' and 'The community is' are functional but could be improved with more sophisticated linking words or transitions (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', or 'In addition to this'). The progression of ideas is clear, but the overall flow feels slightly mechanical at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some relevant terms such as 'leasing agreement', 'maintenance', and 'pest control'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'rapid growth of the bugs' (which sounds unnatural) and 'easy commute for my office' (should be 'easy commute to my office'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The range is sufficient to convey your message effectively, but lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'my manager has informed that' (missing an object, e.g., 'informed me that'), '12 moths' (spelling error), and 'I have been observed that' (incorrect passive voice). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
