Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I am writing to inform you that I am tenant of you and pay rent of apartment. Actually, when I started to live in apartment we have an agreement between us regarding to live in apartment within six months. Now, I have left only one month to complete this agreement. I want to tell you that I have plan to live here one year more in your apartment. You know that I pay rent on the time so I think that you will no problem of living me more than six months.
Firstly I had plan to live in it six months. However, recently I changed my plan due to convenient place for me as it is effective transport near it. Therefore, it is easy for me to go to work and my university.
Although, there are all amenities in apartment but the shortage of heating in winter is main problem for me as sometime I sick due to this problem. So, I want that you should pay attention on this problem and solve it as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: you specified the desired extension period, explained the change in your plans, and raised the issue regarding the heating. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why your plans changed is a bit repetitive and could be more clearly articulated. Additionally, the request for the heating repair is functional but lacks a polite, professional tone expected in formal correspondence. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task, but more precise language would improve the clarity of your message.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the opening paragraph is a bit disjointed, with sentences like 'I am tenant of you' lacking natural connectivity. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., using 'the apartment' instead of repeating 'apartment') and varying your linking words would help the text flow more naturally and move you into a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your needs clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'agreement', 'amenities', and 'shortage'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'I am tenant of you' instead of 'I am your tenant' and 'I think that you will no problem of living me' which is grammatically and lexically unclear. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to renting and housing. Expanding your range of vocabulary beyond basic terms will help you express your ideas with more precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, such as missing articles ('the apartment'), incorrect verb forms ('I have plan to live'), and awkward sentence construction ('sometime I sick'). While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Practicing basic sentence construction will help reduce these errors and improve your overall accuracy.
