Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aadit,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request extention of my stay in this apartment. I know you agreed for only half-year of stay at this place but now I want to rent it for next six months.
the resaon for that is , I moved to this city beacuse I got contract job here but now the company wants to extend my contract for next six months.
Also, this apartment is located near to the place where I am working currently. This not only saves my travelling time but also the fuel expense of my car. Furthermore, the building have numerous amenities such as indoor badminton court, table tennis , a swimming pool in the basement and many more which helps to get relax after a stressful day at work.
But, I also want to draw your attention to certain difficulties which I am facing in this apartment currently is that few taps in this house has leakage issue and also I saw tiny insects in the kitchen area.
So, I just want you to fix those before I extend my stay in this house.
I hope you consider my extention in this apartment and looking forward to hear from you.
Yours faithfully,
Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly stated the desired extension period, provided a logical reason for the change in plans, and identified specific maintenance issues. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is more balanced; for instance, the explanation of the apartment's amenities is quite detailed, whereas the request for the extension could be more directly linked to your satisfaction with the property. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the reasons for staying, the maintenance issues, and finally the closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Also', 'Furthermore', and 'But', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is present, but the structure could be improved by separating the request from the explanation of the amenities more clearly. Referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the positive aspects of the apartment and the maintenance issues could be smoother to avoid a sudden shift in tone.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'amenities', 'stressful', and 'leakage'. However, there are several spelling errors ('extention', 'resaon', 'beacuse') and minor collocation issues, such as 'contract job' instead of 'contractual position' or 'fixed-term contract'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the professional tone of your correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement ('the building have', 'taps... has') and article usage ('the swimming pool in the basement'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'I know you agreed for only half-year of stay'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and subject-verb agreement, and practice using more varied complex sentence structures to demonstrate greater control.
