Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request for extending my rental agreement for another six months after my current agreement.

When I had rented this apartment, I was appoint on my job at probationary period for three months. Then, my company had shifted me on trainings with three months of internship setting. And, now my employer have been appointed me on temporary job due to which I have to stay in my workplace for another six months. Moreover, this apartment is at a convenient location from my office also it is well maintained and peaceful. I hardly finds any challenge during my stay.

However, I am recently facing an issue with my kitchen sink. The tap is not functional due to which I am unable to use it. Also, the heater is not working properly in night hours as it rarely keeps me warm during this winter season.

I would be greatful if you arrange someone who could inspect and repair it.

I hope you will consider my request to extend the agreemant. Please let me know if you need any further information.

Your's faithfully,

Sehrish.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task well. The student successfully states the desired extension period ('another six months'), explains the change in plans regarding job status ('my employer have been appointed me on temporary job'), and mentions apartment issues, specifically the kitchen sink and the night-time heater. The ideas are relevant and appropriately developed for a General Training letter. Although there are some minor awkward phrasings and grammatical inaccuracies, the purpose of the letter and all bullet points are clearly fulfilled, warranting a solid Band 6.5 or 7.0. Given the clarity of purpose and adequate development of all required points, a band score of 6.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall progression and logical arrangement. It follows standard letter format, starting with an appropriate greeting and dividing the body into sensible paragraphs covering the extension request, the background and reasons for changing plans, the maintenance problems, and the final request. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Also', although some are a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as moving from the personal background to the apartment maintenance issues. Referencing is generally clear throughout, resulting in a consistent Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases like 'convenient location', 'well maintained', and 'peaceful'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'appoint on my job' instead of 'appointed to my job', 'shifted me on trainings', and 'hardly finds any challenge' instead of 'encounter any problems'. Spelling is generally accurate, but vocabulary limitations and awkward phrasing prevent the score from reaching higher bands. Communication is not impeded by these lexical slips, supporting a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses ('which I have to stay', 'someone who could inspect'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb tense and agreement, such as 'my employer have been appointed me', 'I am writing to request for extending', and 'at night hours'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though the sign-off contains an unnecessary apostrophe ('Your\'s'). While the errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency keeps the grammar score at a Band 6.0.
