Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Mr.John,
I'm writing this letter to complain about the noise coming in the A block of Exotic heights.
I'm living in one of your rented apartment in A block at 26a unit from last 2 years. It's been always a pleasure to reside in a luxury society with all the amenities around.
Since last two weeks I am unable to concentrate on my studies because of loud music being played in the next unit during late evening. The sound continues for around 3 hours and sometimes I feel disturbance during sleep.
I rather suggest you to give them a gentle reminder about the rules and regulations of the society or request you to arrange me any other suitable unit availab;e in the vicinity. It will help me alot in order to focus on my career as my exams are approaching next month.
I hope you will complaint them.
Yours sincerely,
Navkaran Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The candidate fails to address the specific scenario outlined in the prompt, which requires writing to an owner about extending a six-month rental agreement and explaining a change of plans. Instead, the letter mistakenly treats the prompt as a complaint about noise, claiming a tenancy duration of two years ('I'm living in one of your rented apartment... from last 2 years') and requesting a transfer to another unit. Furthermore, while the prompt asks to mention a problem in the apartment, the noise issue described is external rather than an apartment defect. Because the core purpose of the task (extending the lease and explaining a change of plans) is entirely missed, the task achievement is significantly compromised.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is structured with standard formal letter components, including an opening salutation and closing. Paragraphing is attempted to separate different points, such as the background, the problem, and the requested actions. However, the logical progression is flawed because the foundational premise of the letter contradicts the task prompt. Cohesive devices are used in a basic manner, such as 'Since last two weeks' and 'It will help me alot', but referencing is occasionally unclear or unnatural. Overall, while the text follows a letter format, the lack of relevance to the prompt's core scenario disrupts logical coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication, featuring common terms like 'amenities', 'concentrate', and 'approximate exams'. However, there are notable lexical errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'from last 2 years' instead of 'for the last 2 years', and typos like 'availab;e'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, preventing the response from achieving a higher band. While the reader can understand the intended meaning, the lack of precise and flexible lexical control keeps the score at a modest level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I'm writing this letter to complain...' and 'Since last two weeks I am unable to concentrate...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors including prepositions and tense usage, such as 'coming in the A block' instead of 'coming from', and 'I hope you will complaint them' instead of 'complain to them'. Complex structures often contain errors, and punctuation and article use are inconsistent. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader.
