Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt. You stated how long you want to rent the apartment for by requesting an extension beyond the original six months. You explained your plans have changed by mentioning that your temporary job at Tec Company has now become permanent. Additionally, you informed the owner about problems in the apartment, specifically mentioning the broken washroom door from the previous tenant, noisy neighbors, and the malfunctioning fire alarm beeping at night. However, some of your ideas are slightly brief and underdeveloped, particularly the explanation of the apartment issues which are listed rather than fully expanded upon. Overall, your purpose is clear and the reader understands all your points. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and a logical structure with an appropriate greeting and sign-off. You attempted to use cohesive devices and transition words, such as 'So that is the main reason why' and 'However', to link your ideas. However, some referencing and paragraphing choices are a bit faulty. The paragraph discussing the apartment issues groups several distinct problems together, making it feel a little disjointed. Furthermore, some transitional phrases feel mechanical rather than naturally integrated. Overall progression is visible, but the flow could be significantly improved with better cohesive links between sentences, placing your response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using appropriate terms related to renting and employment, such as 'contract', 'temporary job', 'permanent job', and 'travelling time'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as writing 'temprary' instead of temporary, 'neighbour' misspelled as 'neighbhour', 'valueable' instead of valuable, and 'distrubance' instead of disturbance. You also used slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'request you to increase my contract' and 'answer me as quick as much'. These lexical limitations and errors indicate a Band 5.5 performance, showing an adequate base but frequent minor vocabulary slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempted a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional and causative ideas such as 'As your apartment is near by my job location, so I do not want to move...' and 'I would appreciate if you will answer me...'. However, your writing contains several grammatical errors and awkward punctuation. For instance, combining 'As' and 'so' in the same sentence is redundant, 'increase my contract' is grammatically imprecise, and the verb tense in 'if you will answer me' should be 'if you could answer'. While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents you from achieving a higher band, making Band 5.0 or 5.5 appropriate. We award a 5.5 as communication remains largely clear despite the recurring errors.
