- tell the owner about a problem in the apartment
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request an extention to my six month agreement for the apartment.
I want to extend the contract for atleast one more year because I am planning to stay in this city for a longer period of time.
I was on temporary work permit but now I got a work permit for 3 years. That is why I changed my plan to leave this country and on top of that I am earning handsome money from my job here.
I love this apartment because of all the facilities. It is just 2 kilometer away from my workplace. But there is a little inconvinience due to the faulty water heater and winter is coming now so it will be difficult for me to take a shower with cold water.
I hope you will extend my agreement and fix the issue with the water heater.
Yours faithfully,
Jagjeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, you clearly state how long you wish to rent the apartment for: "atleast one more year". Second, you explain why your plans have changed by mentioning your new 3-year work permit and stable financial situation ("earning handsome money"). Third, you inform the owner about a problem in the apartment, specifically the "faulty water heater". The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a landlord, and all parts of the task are adequately addressed and extended. Minor development is present throughout, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0. Because all bullet points are clearly handled with relevant supporting details, this satisfies the criteria for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a clear and logical organisation from beginning to end. You open with a standard salutation, move sequentially through your request, the reason for the change, the apartment issue, and finally close with an appropriate sign-off ("Yours faithfully"). Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas, such as grouping the work permit details together and separating the maintenance issue. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, though simpler transitions like "That is why" and "and on top of that" are relied upon rather than a wider variety of advanced cohesive links. Overall, the message flows well and is easy to follow, aligning closely with Band 6.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your meaning. You make some attempts at less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as "extention" (though misspelled), "temporary work permit", and "faulty water heater". However, there are some spelling errors, such as "extention" (extension), "atleast" (at least), and "inconvinience" (inconvenience), along with slightly less natural phrasing like "earning handsome money". While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a typical Band 6 profile where vocabulary is sufficient for the task but contains noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the use of subordinate clauses with "because" and "due to". There are several grammatical errors and punctuation oversights, including missing commas and articles (e.g., "I was on temporary work permit" should be "on a temporary work permit", and "2 kilometer" should be "2 kilometers"). Additionally, some sentences run on slightly without proper punctuation. Nevertheless, the majority of your sentences are clear, and the errors rarely impede communication. This balance of mixed structures and occasional mechanical slips places your grammar comfortably at Band 6.0.
