Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I hope you are doing awesome. I am writing this letter to request you for the extention of apartment agreement. In the month of march, I took your apartment on rent for six monthns and now i want to continue it.
Actually, I want to stay here for next six months or long. It is very peaceful place and a lots of stores here, so easy to go for groceries, medical and many more. Now, I am very comfortable with this apartment as compared to search new one.
Last month, my boss had informed me about my transfer from Brampton to Toronto. Yesterday, he put my transfer on hold owing to some reasons. Then, I decided to change my plan for moving to Toronto.
However, there are some items, which are required to repaire them. Firstly, the lock of main door is not working properly and air condition is not cooling down the rooms. Please try to fix it.
Yours Lovingly,
Deep

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the candidate states the desired duration clearly: 'for next six months or long'. Second, the reason for the changed plans is explained by detailing the job transfer to Toronto and its subsequent hold. Third, a problem in the apartment is described, specifically mentioning the broken main door lock and the malfunctioning air conditioner. The tone is appropriately semi-formal for a landlord-tenant correspondence. Although there are minor inaccuracies in detail and development, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid Band 6.5 descriptor alignment, rounded to a band score of 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is arranged in a logical overall structure, opening with a greeting and purpose, moving through the extension request, the change in plans, the maintenance issue, and closing appropriately. Paragraphing is used reasonably to separate different ideas, such as grouping the duration and plan changes together and the apartment issues in a separate paragraph. Cohesive devices are generally simple, using words like 'Actually', 'Then', and 'However'. Referencing is mostly clear, though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. Overall, the organization supports clear progression of ideas, meeting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common phrasing such as 'extention of apartment agreement' and 'owing to some reasons'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'extention' (extension), 'monthns' (months), 'a lots of stores' (a lot of stores), 'search new one' (searching for a new one), and 'repaire them' (repair them). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate limitations in lexical control, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional or causal clauses ('Yesterday, he put my transfer on hold owing to some reasons. Then, I decided to change my plan...'). However, there are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including punctuation and article omissions ('took your apartment on rent', 'for six monthns', 'It is very peaceful place', 'air condition is not cooling'), as well as awkward phrasing ('required to repaire them'). Although these errors occasionally cause minor difficulty for the reader, communication is maintained, corresponding to a Band 5.5 score.
