Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Kyle,
Five months ago, I signed a lease agreement of a two bed condo which I am currently residing in. The agreement was for six months but I am writing this letter to request you to extend my lease and wish to stay longer that we originally agreed for.
Fristly, I really liked your condo so much that I changed my mind and decided to extend my stay another six months because I have looked around the area, and there is no one seems suitable to my need and also cheap which is your are offering me.
Furthermore, there are few reasons that changed my mind to stay longer. Primary reason is I loved your condo. It has big balconys which brings morning sun light. Seconday reason is, your condo is situated at a prime location. By this I mean, thr grocery shops, bus station and a mall are located near to the walking distance from your place.
However, there are few problems, nothing major. But one problem which caused a headache to me last saturday, that was bed bugs. I would suggest you to do a pestide in whole apartment. This will help me to keep bed bugs away.
Again, please do not hesitate to ask any questions to me.
Warm regards,
Oman.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly stated how much longer you wish to rent the apartment ('another six months'), explained why your plans have changed by expressing your satisfaction with the condo's location and features, and informed the owner about a problem ('bed bugs'). All parts of the task are adequately addressed and supported with relevant details, fulfilling the requirements for a Band 6.5 or Band 7.0. However, the explanation regarding the reasons for changing your mind contains some repetition, as you mention liking the condo multiple times across paragraphs. A more concise and structured elaboration would elevate the task response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall structure, opening with an appropriate salutation and closing nicely. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as the lease extension, reasons for staying, and the apartment problem. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Fristly', 'Furthermore', and 'However', but some referencing is repetitive and mechanical ('Seconday reason is, your condo is situated...'). Spelling errors like 'Fristly' and minor punctuation slips also impact the fluency of the text. Progression is generally logical, but the overlapping reasons in paragraphs two and three slightly disrupt the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You attempted a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'lease agreement', 'prime location', and 'pestide' (pest control). However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'Fristly', 'balconys', 'sun light', 'Seconday', and 'pesticide' being used as a verb ('do a pestide'). Collocations are sometimes unnatural, such as 'cause a headache to me'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Expanding your control of precise vocabulary and proofreading for spelling will improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable attempt at varied grammar ('Five months ago, I signed a lease agreement...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('stay longer that we originally agreed for', 'is no one seems suitable'), incorrect prepositions ('located near to the walking distance'), and awkward phrasing ('wish to stay longer that we originally agreed for'). Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and does not cause severe difficulty for the reader. Control over complex structures needs to be more consistent for a higher band.
