Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr shetty,
I am writing this letter because my rental agreement has only one month left. I have been living in this flat for five months. My rental agreement is orginally only six months. However, I am wishing to stay longer in this flat.
Therefore, i am requesting to renewel the agreement of flat for the next 12 months. Even if there is a chance to increase rent i am happy to pay equvalant upfront and follow the necessary steps for the renewel.
My plans have changed because recently i recieved a new job offer. Which is near to the flat just 15-minute walk away to my work place. Not only that after moved to this apartment I feel more comfortable. If i changed now it will feel inconvenient.
But, there is only one problem at apartment is there is no hot water from past five weeks. I already rised the issue few times., which made me to be late to my workplace on time.If there is no issue can you please look into this problem and fix it in three working days.
I am looking forword for your response about the renewel of rental agreement and about the hot water issue.
Yours sincerely,
Damaraka polisetty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all parts of the letter prompt. You clearly stated that you want to rent the apartment for an additional 12 months, explained that your plans changed due to a new job offer within a convenient walking distance, and informed the owner about the ongoing hot water problem. The tone is mostly appropriate for a formal or semi-formal request to a landlord. However, the explanation regarding the apartment problem and the requested deadline to fix it feels slightly abrupt or demanding for a standard tenant-landlord communication. Despite this minor stylistic issue, all bullet points are covered adequately, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter is organised into clear paragraphs with an appropriate opening and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'Not only that' to connect your ideas. However, paragraphing and referencing are occasionally awkward. For instance, starting a sentence with a relative pronoun ('Which is near to the flat...') creates a sentence fragment, disrupting the flow. Furthermore, the transition between discussing the apartment renewal and the hot water problem is rather abrupt. Overall, the arrangement is coherent enough to follow easily, but greater flexibility and accuracy in cohesion are needed for a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your personal situation and requests with words like 'rental agreement', 'convenient', and 'upfront'. However, there are several noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'orginally' instead of 'originally', 'renewel' instead of 'renewal', 'equvalant' instead of 'equivalent', 'recieved' instead of 'received', and 'rised' instead of 'raised'. There are also awkward collocations like 'renewel of agreement of flat'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict your score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses ('If there is no issue can you please look into this...'). However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors like 'there is no hot water from past five weeks' (instead of 'for the past five weeks'), sentence fragments starting with relative pronouns ('Which is near to the flat just 15-minute walk away'), and incorrect tense usage ('after moved to this apartment'). Punctuation is also faulty in places, such as unnecessary commas ('recently i recieved...'). These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader.
