Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you switch my plan to live your apartment. According to agreement, I was stay for six month.
However, I change my plan to live here only one month. Because, next month I go to my home country in India to attend a family function.
Furthermore, why I changed my plan as last night I talk with my college friend about her IT business, she told about profit which she make just in one month. So, I changed my plan live more in Canada, and I talk with my parents to open IT busines in India as I have degree from university, and my parents are also agree my view point. As a result, now I think that should talk with you to change my plan.
Apart from it, There are some obstacles which I observe in my daily life. Many residents who live in this apartment they play loud music late at night, which disturb everyone in the building. I would appreciate it if you could focus on this issue and solve this problem as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Kind regards,
Jass.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, though the progression is slightly contradictory and confusing. You successfully state that you want to stay longer, though your explanation shifts between wanting to live there for only one month versus wanting to live more in Canada and start an IT business. You also successfully tell the owner about a problem regarding residents playing loud music late at night. The bullet points are all covered, but the explanation regarding your plans changing is contradictory (stating you change your plan to live here only one month, followed by stating you want to live more in Canada). To achieve a higher band, ensure your explanation of changing plans is clear and logically consistent without contradicting your initial statement about extending your stay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by contradictory statements and awkward transitions. You attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Furthermore', and 'As a result', but some are used inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'Furthermore, why I changed my plan as last night...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the third paragraph is overly long and crams multiple disparate ideas together, including your business plans and a shift in mindset. Referencing and pronoun use are occasionally unclear, making it harder for the reader to follow the exact progression of your thoughts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several lexical errors that detract from the writing. Examples include 'switch my plan to live your apartment', 'I was stay for six month', and 'parents are also agree my view point'. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'obstacles' and 'consideration', but word choice and collocation are frequently inaccurate. While the meaning remains mostly clear despite these errors, the lexical range is restricted and requires more precision to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response features a very limited range of grammatical structures, and your attempts at complex sentences are consistently flawed. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as missing auxiliary verbs ('I was stay', 'I change my plan to live here only one month'), tense confusion ('last night I talk'), and preposition errors ('live your apartment'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also weak, leading to run-on structures like 'So, I changed my plan live more in Canada, and I talk with my parents...'. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of basic English grammar.
