Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about a change in agreement which i made with you when I rent property from you. According to agreement, I was supposed to stay just six months. Whenever, I want to live two month more here.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for giving me this property on reasonable price as you know that I am working near to our apartment. I am seasonal worker in the office but my manger like my work criteria in the office. Therefore, he extend my availability more two months Due to which, I need to stay more two months in this apartment.
Secondly, after two months, I am going to my home country to attend my family occasions. I wish to start my business in India. So, I would not like to visit again here.
Finally, one problem I observe in this apartment which is loud noise by residents which happened late at night. I would like to appreciate it if you could investigate this issue and take action as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Kind regards,
Jass.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions, making it fully relevant to the prompt. You state how long you want to rent the apartment for by requesting an extension of two months, explaining that your manager extended your availability because your work was appreciated. You also mention visiting your home country afterwards, and you successfully highlight the problem regarding the loud noise made by other residents late at night. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a request to a landlord. To reach a higher band, the explanation of the changing plans could be a little more cohesive, but overall all parts of the task are adequately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has an identifiable overall progression and is divided into appropriate paragraphs to handle the different parts of the task. You make use of basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' to structure your points. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and paragraphing is sometimes awkward, such as mixing your future travel plans into the explanation of the work extension. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in the sentence 'Whenever, I want to live two month more here,' where the logical connection to the previous sentence is disrupted. Overall, the organisation is adequate for the reader to follow your message.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to successfully convey your message to the apartment owner. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'reasonable price', 'seasonal worker', and 'investigate'. However, there are notable lexical errors and unnatural word choices throughout the text, such as 'change in agreement which i made', 'when I rent property' instead of 'rented', and 'work criteria' instead of 'performance' or 'work ethic'. Spelling and word-choice errors do occur, but they do not impede overall communication. Expanding your range of collocations will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as 'Therefore, he extend my availability more two months Due to which, I need to stay more two months in this apartment.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors involving verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence fragments, such as 'When I rent property' instead of 'rented', and missing plural forms like 'two month' instead of 'two months'. Punctuation errors, such as starting a sentence with 'Whenever,' instead of 'However,' also detract from accuracy. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to place the writing firmly in the band 5 range.
