Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you about a change in agreement which i made with you when I rented property from you. According to the agreement, I was supposed to stay just six months. Whenever I want to live two month more here.
Firstly, I would like to thank you for giving me this property at a reasonable price as you know that I am working near our apartment. I am a seasonal worker in the office but my manager like my work criteria in the office. Therefore, he extended my availability for two more months. Due to which, I need to stay for two more months in this apartment.
Secondly, after two months, I am going to home to attend my family occasions. I wish to starts my business in India. So, I would not like to visit here again.
Finally, one problem I observe in this apartment which is the loud noise by residents which is happens late at night. I would like to appreciate it if you could investigate this issue and take action as soon as possible.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,
Jass.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt. First, the writer states how long they wish to extend the rental by, mentioning two more months. Second, the reason for the change in plans is explained, specifically that the manager extended the availability due to good work performance. Third, the writer raises a problem regarding late-night noise caused by other residents and asks the owner to investigate. Although the tone and register occasionally slip into a slightly informal style, the purpose of the letter is clear, and all prompt requirements are fully met. The ideas are relevant and adequately developed to satisfy the communication goals of a General Training Task 1 letter, corresponding well to a Band 6.0 descriptor profile.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is generally coherent and follows a logical arrangement, utilizing paragraphs effectively to separate different points, such as the change in plans, future intentions, and the apartment problem. Cohesive devices are employed, including transition markers like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally', although some referencing and linking are a bit mechanical or awkward, such as 'Due to which, I need to stay'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the message, and the overall progression is clear to the reader, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor criteria for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'reasonable price', 'seasonal worker', and 'investigate this issue'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'work criteria' instead of 'work performance', and 'Whenever I want to live two month more here' where vocabulary and grammar intersect awkwardly. Spelling is generally accurate, but limitations in precision and lexical control keep this response firmly at the Band 6.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. While there are some correct complex structures, there are frequent errors in grammar, tense, and article usage. Examples include 'change in agreement which i made', 'Whenever I want to live two month more here', 'Due to which, I need to stay', and 'loud noise by residents which is happens late at night'. Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear, such as lowercase 'i'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.5, making Band 6.0 a fitting assessment.
