Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to extend my stay for next 3 months in the aparatment. However, the original agreement was only for 6 months which I want to change.
To begin with, five months ago, I have rented this apartment for 6 months. At that time, I did not have any plan to stay here after 6 months. Now, I have to extend it upto next 3 months.
Moreover, the main thing why I have changed my plan because of some unforeseen circumstances at my work. Due to that, I need to stay in this town to complete my ongoing project in the company. However, I have been facing an issue with the car parking in the buliding as it is almost full everyday and I could not able to park my car in the parking lot. Could you please solve this problem as soon as possible? I appreciate your assistance with this matter. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Your's sincerely,
Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully addressed all parts of the task, meeting the criteria for a solid performance while showing glimpses of a higher band. You clearly stated that you wish to rent the apartment for another three months, explained the work-related circumstances behind your plan change, and highlighted the parking issue in the building. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, particularly the explanation of your changed plans and the initial mention of the agreement length, which holds the response back slightly. To reach the next level, you need to ensure that every bullet point is fully expanded with richer detail and seamless clarity throughout all parts of the letter without reiterating previous points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement, and the purpose of the communication is clear to the reader. You used standard greeting and sign-off conventions and attempted to divide your thoughts into paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes a bit mechanical or faulty, such as the awkward transition in "However, the original agreement was only..." and repetitive linking phrases like "However" and "To begin with." Referencing and logical progression could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, you should employ a wider and more natural variety of cohesive devices and ensure that paragraph transitions guide the reader seamlessly from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message while attempting some less common words and phrases like "unforeseen circumstances" and "ongoing project." However, there are a few noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation, such as "aparatment" (spelling), "upto" (spacing/preposition choice), and "buliding" (spelling), along with minor awkward phrasing. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent a higher rating. To improve your lexical score, focus on accurate spelling, precise word forms, and natural collocations, whilst avoiding repetitive vocabulary choices across the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You utilized a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and modal verbs, which is appropriate for this level. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as tense usage ("five months ago, I have rented" instead of the past simple), verb pattern mistakes ("request you to extend" or "could not able to"), and an incorrect sign-off ("Your's sincerely"). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move up to the next band, you should aim for a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over verb tenses, auxiliary verbs, and possessive determiners.
