Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt only partially, which aligns with the given achievement level. While all three bullet points from the instructions are touched upon—mentioning the desired duration, explaining the change in plans, and introducing a maintenance issue—the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the explanation regarding the transfer orders from the company and the project details is tangled and lacks clarity, making it difficult for the reader to fully grasp the situation. Similarly, the apartment problem is introduced abruptly in the final paragraph without sufficient detail regarding what the actual repair work entails. To improve, the writer needs to expand on each bullet point with clearer, more fully developed explanations that communicate the message without ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The letter displays some organizational structure, but there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transitions between sentences feel disjointed. Cohesive devices are either inadequate or awkwardly applied, such as the sudden shift into the final paragraph with 'If you agreed with this i would discuss... Thats', which breaks the flow entirely. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as ambiguity around what 'this' or 'here' refers to in different contexts. Achieving a higher band would require a more logical arrangement of ideas, smoother transitions between paragraphs, and more accurate use of cohesive devices to guide the reader seamlessly through the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common phrases, but noticeable errors in word choice, word formation, and spelling occur frequently throughout the text. Examples include 'updating you' instead of 'update you', 'apololize' for 'apologize', 'inconvience' for 'inconvenience', 'priortize' for 'priority' or 'prioritized', and 'intially' for 'initially'. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader in places. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to expand their range of vocabulary, ensure accurate word forms, and pay closer attention to standard spelling conventions so that communication is precise and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical structures used are somewhat limited, consisting largely of basic patterns and faulty attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent errors in grammar, tense consistency, prepositions, and punctuation that cause difficulty for the reader. Notable issues include verb tense errors ('I want to updating', 'i adjustfrom several month', 'i have to spending'), missing articles, and run-on structures, particularly evident in the fragmented ending ('Thats'). Punctuation is also weak, with spacing errors around punctuation marks and a lack of proper sentence boundaries. To elevate the grammar score, the writer must focus on producing a wider variety of accurate complex structures, maintaining correct verb forms, and improving punctuation and sentence control.
