Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Andy,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my request for extending the agreement of my apartment. I would appriciate if you could allow me to stay more 6 months and renew the agreement for my stay.
There are two main reasons why I changed my plan. First of all, the commute to my university from this location is pretty close. Additionally, I need to take only 1 bus to go to my work place, which is really comfortable and convenient for me. Consequently, it allows me to save sufficient money as I do not need to purchase the monthly pass. Furthermore, it also help me to save some time for my study since it does not take longer for commuting different places.
However, I would like to mention about an issue in the apartment that is sometimes my stove does not work properly. It stops suddenly during cooking. It happened twice in this month since I was busy I could not get a chance to let you know.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would really appreciate your support in this regards.
Yours faithfully,
Jasmin Akter.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully address all parts of the prompt by stating that you want to extend your stay for another six months, explaining that your work and university commutes are very convenient from this location, and notifying the owner about the faulty stove. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, while your explanation of why your plans changed regarding the transport and cost savings is quite detailed, the mention of the problem with the stove is rather brief and lacks specific details on when you need it fixed. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that every bullet point receives an equal level of clear development and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing to separate your greeting, purpose, reasons, apartment issue, and sign-off. You also use cohesive devices flexibly to connect your ideas, such as "First of all," "Additionally," "Consequently," and "Furthermore." While these transition words help guide the reader smoothly, a slightly more natural and less mechanical integration of cohesive devices in places would elevate your writing even further. Overall, your thoughts flow logically from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as "commute to my university," "convenient for me," and "sufficient money." There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally surface, such as spelling "appriciate" instead of "appreciate," using "extending the agreement of my apartment" rather than "extending my rental agreement," and saying "take only 1 bus" instead of "take only one bus." These lexical errors do not impede communication, but eliminating them and showing greater precision and style would push your score higher.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your letter features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a decent grasp of sentence structures. You successfully incorporate relative clauses and multi-clause sentences, such as "There are two main reasons why I changed my plan." However, there are some grammar errors in your writing, including tense and agreement issues such as "stay more 6 months" instead of "stay for another 6 months" and "it also help me" instead of "it also helps me," as well as a preposition error in "commuting different places" instead of "commuting to different places." These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication.
