Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You successfully address all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You state that you want to rent the apartment for another year, explain that your company has renewed your job contract and mention the convenience of being close to your sister, and you inform the owner about a leaking toilet tap. Your purpose is clearly conveyed throughout the letter and the semi-formal tone is appropriate. However, while all parts are addressed, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, preventing a higher score. For instance, the explanation regarding the job renewal could be expanded with more detail about your long-term plans. To move further up, ensure every point is fully extended and supported with richer details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending, and you use paragraphing to separate your main points logically. For example, your second paragraph focuses on the lease duration and the reason for staying, while your third paragraph introduces additional benefits and the maintenance issue. However, your use of cohesive devices is at times mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'Another benefit is' and 'Secondly'. Referencing is generally clear, but smoother transitions between ideas would create a more fluid progression and elevate the overall organisational flow of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message while attempting some less common phrases like 'legal documents' and 'convenient for me'. There are, however, some word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'live further in your apartment' instead of 'extend my lease', and 'it is an humble request' instead of 'I would greatly appreciate it if you could'. Spelling is generally accurate, but these occasional inaccuracies in lexical selection prevent the vocabulary from feeling completely natural or precise, keeping the performance within this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over your grammatical structures, such as in conditional or relative clauses like 'which is quite a benefit for me'. However, there are notable grammatical errors regarding prepositions and verb tenses, including 'regarding to extend' instead of 'regarding extending', 'has renew' instead of 'has renewed', and 'from last one week' instead of 'for the past week'. These errors in grammar do not impede communication since your meaning remains clear, but they persist throughout the text, meaning your control is firmly placed at this level.
