Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the communicative task. The writer clearly states the desired extension period of six months right at the beginning, explains the change in plans due to finding a new job in Surrey, and successfully reports the problem regarding the leaking bathroom tap. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal letter to a landlord. Ideas are extended and supported well, such as mentioning the convenience of the work location and the pleasant surrounding neighborhood, satisfying the criteria for this level nicely while fully covering the bullet points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a generally coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing that separates the different points of the prompt. There is a logical progression from stating the request to explaining the personal context and finally reporting the maintenance issue. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty due to missing spaces after punctuation marks and occasional run-on sentences, such as combining distinct clauses without appropriate transition or spacing. To reach the next level, the use of cohesive devices needs to be more flexible and natural, and referencing could be smoother throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items like 'convenient', 'surrounding environment', and 'water wastage'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'exteneding', 'sureey' (Surrey), 'dission' (decision), and 'tape' instead of 'tap'. While these errors do not severely impede communication and convey the intended meaning, they restrict the lexical score because of frequent slips in spelling and slight inaccuracies in collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, run-on sentences, incorrect verb forms ('to asking', 'plan' instead of 'planned', 'was facing'), and punctuation spacing issues. Complex sentences often contain errors or lack proper clause integration, meaning control is limited. To improve, the writer needs to focus on sentence boundaries, subject-verb agreement, and accurate tense usage to ensure error-free complex structures.
