Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to request you for allowing me to stay for 6 more months than the originally made agreement. What made me to take this decision is the delaying the construction of my house.
Earlier the builder assured me that I could move to my new house in the coming winters however, he flipped from his statement with an excuse of shortage of construction labour. Now, he gave me a final date for the completion of my house which is the october of next year. So, until then I want to live in your apartment as a tenant. I hope you will help me in this situation.
Moreover, the heating system is not working properly. I tried to find the issue but could not able to get it. I would appreciate if you could ask any technician to repair it as the winters are coming soon. Donot worry. I will pay all the maintenance cost.
I look forward to get a positive and prompt response from you.
Yours faithfully,
Simran Kashyap.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task, meeting the higher requirements while displaying some traits of the level below. You clearly state the extension period, explaining that you wish to stay for six more months. The reason for the change in plans—the delay in house construction caused by a shortage of labor—is well explained, though the explanation has a minor tendency to over-generalize regarding the timeline. Additionally, you successfully inform the owner about a problem in the apartment by mentioning the malfunctioning heating system. All three bullet points are covered with a clear and consistent purpose throughout the letter, reflecting solid task fulfillment with well-extended ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organization and progression throughout the letter. The layout follows standard conventions, and you use paragraphing sufficiently and appropriately to separate your main points, such as the extension request, the reason for the changed plans, and the apartment maintenance issue. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, as seen with transition words like 'Moreover' and 'So'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally slightly mechanical, and clearer referencing could make the flow smoother. Overall, the arrangement provides a coherent structure that guides the reader easily from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message. There are attempts to use less common items and appropriate topic-specific phrasing, such as 'tenant', 'maintenance cost', and 'technician'. However, some lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices are present, such as 'the delaying the construction' and 'giving me a final date for the completion'. Spelling is generally accurate, but occasional minor word-choice slips indicate the need for more precision and better collocation control to reach higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a decent attempt at varied structures. There are several instances of successful complex sentences, such as 'I would appreciate if you could ask any technician to repair it as the winters are coming soon.' However, some grammatical errors persist, including verb pattern mistakes like 'request you for allowing me' and 'made me to take this decision', along with punctuation and article errors such as 'the october'. These errors do not impede communication, but they occur regularly enough to restrict the score to this level.
