Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

Hope you are doing well. I want to inform you that, I have changed my mind. I wants to extend my aggrement to six months ahead.

I was working in the Avicenna Hospital. My aggrement with the hospital is for 1 year. My tenure has been completed, that's why I decided to leave the appartment. I planned to go back home and start my own clinic but the hospital administration requested me and renewd my aggrement for 6 months. Thats's why I have to stay here for 6 months more. I request you to renew my rental aggrement for 6 months more. This appartment ihave very less distance from my hospital that's why I preffer to stay here.

Sir, but there are some issues in the appartment. I request you to resolve the problem as soon as possible. There are some plumbing issues in the washrooms. The fan of the living room is still not working. And the last one the stove of kitchen is also out of order. Kindly resolve them as soon as possible.

I shall be very thakful to you.

Your's truly,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requirements: you request a further six months, explain that the hospital has renewed your work agreement, and report plumbing, fan and stove problems. The reason for staying is relevant, and the detail that the apartment is close to the hospital helps explain your preference. The request and problems are clear, but some points are not fully developed: for example, you do not specify when the repairs are needed or whether the owner should arrange them, and the change from planning to leave to staying could be explained more directly. The letter is appropriately directed to the owner, though a more natural, courteous opening and closing would strengthen its overall effectiveness.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it first requests an extension, then explains the changed plans, and finally lists the apartment problems. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these purposes, and links such as “That’s why” make the cause of your decision understandable. However, the repeated use of “That’s why” and “as soon as possible” makes some connections feel mechanical. The transition into the repair request (“Sir, but…”) is also abrupt, and the sequence of reasons could be made smoother by clearly connecting the hospital’s renewal to your decision to remain. Use a wider range of linking expressions and refer back to the apartment or agreement more clearly to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “renew my rental agreement,” “plumbing issues,” and “out of order.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, however, and spelling errors are noticeable: “aggrement,” “appartment,” “renewd,” and “thakful.” Phrases such as “six months ahead” and “very less distance” do not express your meaning naturally; “for a further six months” and “very close to the hospital” would be clearer. “Tenure” is also less suitable here than “contract” or “employment agreement.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the letter, but more accurate collocations and careful spelling would make your vocabulary more effective and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple sentences and longer explanations, including “My tenure has been completed, that’s why I decided to leave the apartment,” so there is some variety in sentence structure. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I wants” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, and “I have changed my mind” is followed by a comma that should be removed. The sentence about the hospital agreement (“the hospital administration requested me and renewd my aggrement”) needs a clearer verb structure, such as “asked me to renew my agreement.” Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly in the list of repairs. Check agreement, verb forms and punctuation when editing.
