Write a letter to the owner of your apartment. In your letter

- tell the owner about a problem in the apartment
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I hope you are doing well. I am your tenant who lives on second floor and I rented this apartment five months ago on a six-month contract. Since that time I am living in this building, with all the facilities provided and paid monthly rent on time. However, now I have decided that I want live here for more than six months.
At the onset, I want to rent this home for atleast six month more and for that I will pay all the payment in advance if you say so.
Actually, previously I rented this apartment just for my studies because my college is situated near this area and recently I got a job opportunity that is why I decided to stay here. When I will get work from home then I will shift to my home town.
Lastly, I have one problem with this building. The elevator does not work properly, last time I got stuck and got rescued after 2 hours that was a horrific experience. Please look into it and got it repaired as soon as possible.
Looking forward for your response!
yours faithfully,
Venus.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you request an extension, explain that a new job has changed your plans, and report the faulty elevator, including the serious incident when you were trapped. The request to rent for “at least six month more” gives the owner a clear timeframe, and offering advance payment supports your request. The reason for the change is relevant, although the detail about moving back to your hometown when you work from home makes the longer-term plan slightly less clear. To strengthen the letter further, state the requested extension precisely and clarify how your job affects how long you expect to stay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce your tenancy and request, explain the change in circumstances, then raise the apartment problem and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and transitions such as “Actually” and “Lastly” guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the linking phrases can feel mechanical, and the opening paragraph includes background that could be more directly connected to the request. The sequence “When I will get work from home then I will shift” also makes the relationship between your job and future plans harder to follow. Use more natural transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some effective choices, such as “job opportunity,” “in advance,” and “horrific experience,” which communicate the situation clearly. You also use appropriate formal expressions, including “Please look into it.” Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “all the facilities provided,” “all the payment,” and “got rescued” do not sound fully idiomatic in this context. “At the onset” is also an awkward choice for introducing a request. These inaccuracies do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for common, accurate collocations in formal correspondence, such as “extend my tenancy,” “make the payment,” and “was rescued.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “because my college is situated near this area” and the account of the elevator incident. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I want live here” needs an infinitive marker, and “When I will get work from home then I will shift” has an incorrect future-time clause structure. There are also issues with articles and number in “on second floor” and “six month more,” as well as tense consistency in “Since that time I am living.” Review verb patterns, articles, and tense choices, and punctuate the long elevator sentence more carefully to improve control.
