Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sam,

I would like to tell you that i want to extend my stay at your premises.

As, we had a aggrement between us that i will here for six months from january to june . Actually, this apartment is provide various kinds of facilities such as ; parks, grocery stores , transportation within a walking distance so, thats why i do not have to go far to buy somthing. Therefore, i want to stay here for next six months till the end of this year. Because, in next year i will go india to spend holidays with my families .

Furtheremore, the main reason behind it that i do not want to change is accomodation is that , i have a younger children in my family and his school is just next to our house , which is easy for us to drop and pick him from school. In addition, as we all the members are busy with our job , sometimes our neighbours help us to take care of our child , whenever we are not in our home they feed our child as well.

Everything is perfect in this apartment rather the water supply . most of the time the water supply is interupted and in result of this we face water shortages. I would appericiate if you look into this matter and assit us with this probelm .

Thank you

Yours Faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three requirements clearly: you request a further six months, explain that the apartment’s location suits your family and your child’s school, and report interruptions to the water supply. The reasons for staying are relevant and supported with practical details, such as neighbours helping with childcare. The request is also clear from the opening. To make the letter more complete and persuasive, state the proposed dates precisely, since “till the end of this year” may not clearly match the six-month extension, and briefly ask the owner to confirm whether the extension is possible. The water problem is identified, but a little more detail about its impact or the action you would like taken would strengthen this part.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable progression: it introduces the extension request, gives reasons for staying, and then raises the maintenance issue. Paragraphing helps separate these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” make relationships between ideas visible. This provides a coherent overall arrangement. However, some transitions feel mechanical or are used where the connection is already clear; several sentences also begin with “Because” or “As,” which makes the progression less smooth. The long paragraph about family circumstances contains several ideas that could be divided or ordered more deliberately. Use fewer formulaic connectors and make each paragraph’s main point clear at its start to improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including relevant terms such as “water supply,” “water shortages,” and “accommodation.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, for example “within walking distance” and “take care of our child.” However, spelling errors and awkward word combinations are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “aggrement,” “interupted,” and “look into this matter” alongside “assist us with this problem” need more accurate control. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “your premises” for an apartment and “change is accommodation.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for renting and household repairs; this will make your vocabulary more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because,” “which,” and “whenever.” The intended meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and basic forms recur. For example, “As, we had a aggrement between us that i will here” is incomplete and has problems with articles and verb form; “this apartment is provide” also needs a correctly formed verb. There are further issues with agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “a younger children” and the run-on structure around “Everything is perfect … the water supply.” Practise complete clauses, subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
