Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inquire about extending my current lease agreement from six months to 2 year period. I have been living in apartment 203 from last five months.
I would like to increase the lease agreement to two years. We can meet next monday to discuss the details and complete the paperwork. I am willing to pay some amount in advance if it requires to do so.
The reason that I want t stay here is; my job contract got extended and I really like working here as I have made some good friends in office. Moroever, I enjoy living in the neighbourhood as location is ideal for daily commute and most of the conveniences are nearby.
However, I would like to bring one problem into your notice that I am facing. The shower faucet is leaking from last two weeks and drain is also clogged.
I kindly request you to change it by plumber.
Thankyou for your attention.
Warm regards,
Amitoz Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three required points clearly: you request a two-year extension, explain that your job contract has been extended and that you enjoy the area, and report the leaking shower faucet and clogged drain. The request is polite and your position is clear throughout. You also add relevant practical details, such as offering an advance payment and suggesting a meeting to complete paperwork. The reasons for staying are supported, although the reference to making friends at work and nearby conveniences could be developed a little more specifically. The maintenance request is understandable, but it would be more effective to state clearly what action you want the owner to arrange and by when.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear, useful progression: the opening states its purpose, the next paragraph makes the request, the following paragraph explains your changed plans, and the final body paragraph raises the apartment problem. This paragraphing helps the reader locate each point, and transitions such as “The reason” and “However” make the relationships between ideas clear. The closing is also appropriate for a formal request. To make the organisation more polished, avoid repeating the two-year request in consecutive paragraphs, and connect the maintenance details more smoothly—for example, present the leaking faucet and clogged drain as two items in one concise request. A few punctuation choices also interrupt the flow slightly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes suitable formal expressions such as “lease agreement,” “in advance,” “daily commute,” and “I kindly request.” These choices make the letter’s meaning clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural word combinations and spelling slips that limit precision: “increase the lease agreement” would be more naturally expressed as “extend the lease,” while “change it by plumber” does not clearly describe the repair needed. “Moroever” and “Thankyou” are also misspelled. Aim for more precise collocations when describing the requested action, such as asking the owner to arrange for a plumber to repair the faucet and clear the drain.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the reason clause in “The reason that I want t stay here is…” and the sentence explaining your job contract and enjoyment of the area. Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “from last five months” and “is leaking from last two weeks,” where the time expressions need a different tense and preposition; “to 2 year period,” which needs a plural form and article; and “if it requires to do so,” which has an unclear grammatical construction. The semicolon after “is” is also inappropriate. Review articles, plural forms, and present-perfect constructions, then proofread for small typing errors.
