Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Mark,
I hope you find this email in the best of your health. I am writing to request if you could please give me an extension to stay at your place for a couple of more months, to be specific 4 months.
My agreement with you is ending next month as five months have already been passed and it was a half yearly deal so please help me in this matter as this is due to my university thesis which i have to submit in the next four and half months. My institute is at a walking distance from this accomodation so it is really beneficial me to stay here until the end of my semester because mostly I have to work late for my thesis presentation.
I am sorry to highlight an issue I am facing in your rented place is that on the weekends the water supply is low. Most of the days are the no shower days as I don't get much time during the week and I prefer to have a peaceful time at home on the weekends but due to the shortage of water I am constantly hustling but i'm managing some how.
Kindly look this matter and approve the time for the stay. I would be extremely grateful.
Yours faithfully,
Kisa.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you request a four-month extension, explain that your thesis and nearby university make staying useful, and report low water pressure at weekends. The request is clear and the reasons are relevant. The explanation of your changed plans is the strongest part, with the thesis deadline and late work giving useful context. The apartment problem is also identified, but its impact and what you would like the owner to do about it could be stated more directly. The opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter, though the request could be framed more clearly as a proposed extension to the existing agreement. Overall, the main information is covered, with some details less fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the request, gives the reason for the change, describes the water problem, and ends by asking for approval. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate purposes. Linking phrases such as “because” and “so” show relationships between ideas, but some sentences carry several points at once, particularly the paragraph about the agreement, thesis, and location. The water paragraph also shifts from the supply problem to weekend routines and then to managing the shortage, making the central point less focused. Use shorter sentences and clearer transitions, and refer back to the requested extension and repair or investigation consistently, to make progression smoother and cohesion less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal rental request, including “extension,” “agreement,” “thesis,” “accommodation,” and “water supply.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is generally polite. Some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “give me an extension to stay at your place,” “best of your health,” and “constantly hustling.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “accomodation” and “some how.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for conventional letter-writing collocations and more exact descriptions of the problem—for example, say that water pressure is low rather than describing the supply as “low.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a result clause with “so.” The meaning remains clear overall, but some grammatical errors occur in longer sentences. For example, “five months have already been passed” uses an incorrect verb construction; “five months have already passed” is the natural form. In “it is really beneficial me to stay here,” the adjective needs a preposition (“beneficial for me”). Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in lowercase “i” and “i'm,” and several ideas are joined into long sentences. Check verb forms, prepositions after adjectives, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy while retaining your range.
