Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Rahul,
I am writing to inform you that I would like to rent your apartment for longer than six months and extend my six-month agreement to one year because of my work commitments.
Next month, I was going to work to another location after six months agreement completion but recently, my company got some projects which are significantly important for firm's growth. As a supervisor, I have to accomplish my responsibilies at this location and
I would like to bring to your attention an issue regarding water leakage in washroom. I have to always keep bucket under the leakage and empty it after few hours, which waste my time and will damage your apartment's roof. I hope you will take immediate steps to rectify this issue.
I trust this matter will be resolved promptly. I would appreciate your attention to this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Ramandeep Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you request an extension, explain that important company projects have changed your plans, and report a water leak in the washroom. The request to extend the agreement to one year is clear, and the leak is described with a practical consequence. However, the explanation of your changed plans is less fully developed: the sentence ending “and” is unfinished, so the reader does not learn more about your work responsibilities. The response also falls three words short of the required minimum. To strengthen the letter, complete that explanation and add a little relevant detail, such as confirming the proposed end date or asking when the leak can be repaired.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a sensible overall sequence: the extension request and reason come first, followed by the apartment problem and a polite closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main purposes, and phrases such as “Next month” and “I would like to bring to your attention” guide the reader. However, the second paragraph ends with “and,” leaving the thought incomplete and interrupting progression. The final two sentences also repeat the request for prompt attention to the leak, making the ending somewhat mechanical. Complete the work-related explanation and use the closing to confirm the requested rental period or invite the owner’s response. These changes would make the links between ideas more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range for a formal letter, including “work commitments,” “significantly important,” “bring to your attention,” and “rectify this issue.” These choices communicate the purpose clearly, and the tone is generally appropriate. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “work to another location” and “six months agreement completion” make the changed plans harder to follow, while “empty it after few hours” is awkwardly expressed. There is also a spelling error in “responsibilies.” Aim for more precise, natural phrases and check spelling before submitting. For example, describe being “transferred to another location” and refer to “the end of my six-month agreement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The response includes both simple statements and more complex forms, such as “because of my work commitments” and the relative clause in “projects which are significantly important.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. In “Next month, I was going to work to another location after six months agreement completion,” the tense and sentence structure do not clearly express the planned move; “after my six-month agreement ends” would be clearer. The following sentence ends with “and,” creating an incomplete clause. In “which waste my time,” the verb does not agree with the singular situation, and “after few hours” is missing an article. Review sentence completion, agreement, and articles while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
