Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir Or Madam,
I am writing to request you to extand the agreement for staying in your apartment.
I would like to rent the apartment for 1 year instead of 6 months.
I changed the plan to stay longer in this apartment because the company, where I am working part time now, hired me as a full time employee for 1 year, and this apartment is beside my firm so it is conveient for me to reach on work on time.
Although there are all the infrastructure facilities available in your apartment, sometime I have to suffer from cold because heating system is not working properly as you know winter start so It is pretty tough to stay in cold. I would appreciate it if you could investigate this issue and provide an appropriate solution. I hope you will take the necessay steps to ensure that this problem does not happen again.
Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours Faithfully,
kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly covers all three requested points: you ask to extend the rental, specify a further year, explain that your employer has offered full-time work, and report that the heating is not working properly. The reason is relevant and supported by the apartment’s proximity to your workplace, while the request for the owner to investigate gives the problem a practical focus. Your purpose remains clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, clarify whether the extra year would begin after the original six-month agreement ends, and give a little more detail about the heating issue or the action you would like the owner to take. The formal opening and closing are appropriate, though addressing the owner by name would make the letter more personal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible order: you state your request, explain the change in your plans, describe the apartment problem, and close politely. This gives the letter a clear overall progression, and linking phrases such as “because,” “Although,” and “I would appreciate it if” help connect ideas. However, the main points are presented as a sequence of separate lines rather than clearly grouped paragraphs, so the organisation could be easier to scan. The sentence beginning “Although there are all the infrastructure facilities…” also combines a general comment about the apartment with the heating complaint, making the relationship between those ideas less smooth. Use distinct paragraphs for the extension, your reason, and the repair request, and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal rental letter, including “request,” “full time employee,” “heating system,” “investigate this issue,” and “appropriate solution.” These choices make your purpose and the problem understandable. Some spelling and word-choice errors, however, reduce precision and naturalness: “extand,” “conveient,” and “necessay” are misspelled, while “reach on work” and “beside my firm” are awkward expressions. “Infrastructure facilities” is also unnecessarily broad for describing an apartment. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling; for example, say that the apartment is “close to my workplace” and that the heating “does not work properly.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple statements and more complex structures, including the reason clause with “because” and the conditional request, “I would appreciate it if you could investigate this issue.” These forms help you explain your circumstances and make a polite request. Some grammatical errors remain, but they rarely prevent understanding. For example, “request you to extend” needs a more natural grammatical pattern, and “the company, where I am working part time now, hired me” has an awkward relative clause and tense choice. In “winter start” and “heating system is not working,” the verb form and article are missing or incorrect. Review articles, subject–verb agreement, and relative clauses, then proofread punctuation and capitalisation, especially the capital “It” after a comma.
