Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Landlord,
I am writing this letter to request you to extend my rent agreement which is suppose to end next month, according to our current six-month agreement. I would like to extend my agreement for next two years.
As my work profile has changed in my clinic, I have become a Head Physiotherapist from clinical therapist, Because of this particular reason, I intend to stay more time in this apartment. In addition to this, the apartment is close to my work place and other essential ameneties. I would prefer to stay back in this apartment for comfort and convinence it provide.
However, I would like you to look into some things which required to be changed or fixed. The bedroom walls get damped in monsoon and bathroom doors does not get locked properly, which makes it difficult to use. I would appreciate if you can fix that before our new rent agreement.
Please, let me know if you require any documents for renewal of agreement and anything you would like to discuss. look forward for your response.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you request a two-year extension, explain that your promotion and the apartment’s proximity to work have changed your plans, and identify damp bedroom walls and a faulty bathroom-door lock. The purpose is clear from the opening, and the request to have the problems fixed before renewal is relevant. Your reasons are supported with practical details, although the explanation of the new role and why it makes a longer stay necessary could be developed a little further. To strengthen the letter, make the requested extension and repair arrangements especially precise, for example by stating the proposed end date and asking when the owner could inspect or arrange the repairs. Overall, the task is handled clearly and appropriately for a formal letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: the opening requests an extension, the next paragraph explains the changed circumstances, and the final body paragraph raises maintenance issues before closing with an invitation to respond. This paragraphing makes the letter easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Because of this” and “In addition to this” help connect the reasons, while “However” signals the shift to the apartment problems. Some connections are slightly mechanical, and the final paragraph moves quickly from the repair request to paperwork and discussion. A smoother transition and a more complete closing sentence would make the progression feel more natural. Overall, the organisation is logical and the reader can readily follow the purpose and supporting points.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “extend,” “agreement,” “essential amenities,” “damped,” and “renewal.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally suitable for writing to a landlord. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “work profile,” “stay more time,” and “comfort and convenience it provide.” There are also spelling errors in “ameneties” and “convinence,” which reduce precision. Aim for natural phrases such as “my role at the clinic has changed,” “remain in the apartment,” and “the convenience it offers.” More accurate collocations and careful proofreading would make your vocabulary more fluent and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which makes it difficult to use” and a reason clause beginning “As my work profile has changed.” The meaning remains clear throughout, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “is suppose to end” needs the past participle “supposed,” “bathroom doors does not” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “it provide” should agree with the singular subject. The sentence beginning “Because of this particular reason” is also incorrectly joined to the preceding sentence with a comma, and “look forward for your response” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Review agreement, verb forms, sentence boundaries, and standard closing expressions to improve accuracy while retaining your range of structures.
