Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writting this letter to request you to extend my contract upto 1 year. Although i hired it for six month. I had no idea about the extenesion of my contracrt at that time at my worklace.
But my official task for which i had to live here is not completed yet. It will take almost six more months. Moreover, i am comfortable here. I have furnished it just according to my needs. Now i have no enough time to pack my luggage. I cannot manage my time to shift to some other apartment due to my long working hours.
Last but not the least, i am facing some managment issues here. Like some electric appliances of the kitchen and washing area require some maintenance. I request you to send some expert to fix this problem. I hope you will consider my request.
Yours Sincerely,
X.Y.Z.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points and make your request clear: you want to extend the rental to one year, explain that your work assignment will take six more months, and report maintenance problems with kitchen and laundry-area appliances. The reasons for staying are relevant, including your comfort in the apartment and difficulty moving around long working hours. The request for repairs is also clear, though “some management issues” is vague and the specific appliance problem could be described more precisely. To strengthen the response further, state explicitly that you are asking to rent for six months beyond the original agreement, and develop the repair issue with a brief example of what is not working.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the extension request, explains the changed work plans, and then raises the apartment problem before closing politely. Linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “Last but not the least” help signal the movement between points. However, the progression is sometimes mechanical, and the opening paragraph’s sentence fragment (“Although i hired it for six month”) interrupts the flow. The final paragraph also combines a broad complaint with the repair request without a smooth transition. Use clearer paragraphing for the request, reasons, and maintenance issue, and connect each idea directly to the next rather than relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, with useful task-related expressions such as “extend my contract,” “official task,” “furnished,” and “maintenance.” However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “writting,” “extenesion,” “contracrt,” and “worklace.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “I hired it” is not the usual way to describe renting an apartment, and “management issues” does not accurately introduce appliance repairs. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “extend the rental agreement,” “work assignment,” and “appliances need repair” would make the letter clearer and more professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple sentences and some more complex forms, including “Although…” and “due to…,” and the main meaning remains clear. There are, however, some errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms. “Although i hired it for six month” is an incomplete subordinate clause, while “I had no idea about the extenesion…” is not clearly connected to the preceding request. There are also issues with articles, number, and capitalization, as in “for six month,” “some expert,” and lowercase “i.” Practise joining dependent clauses to complete sentences and checking singular/plural forms and sentence boundaries. These corrections would make the letter more controlled and fluent.
