Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear manager,
I am writing in connection with increasing the renting time of stay in same apartment.
As you may aware six months ago I rented your apartment just for half year but now i have plan to stay here for next coming six monts because.
I have changed my plan to move at other place because of not only my job but also the amenties of this place. More over, current apartment gives me a feling of my own home and now I am emotionally connected with this place. further more, I have plenty of home furniture, it is hard to move and I donot want break any of product from my home.
I enjoyed these last six months at your apartment, all the facilities are wonderfull except the bathroom taps and shower, there is some leakage and some time it is hard to hotwater. I wanted to make request to you if you send plumbed that they can fix the bathroom problems.
I hope you will consider my request and thank you for your time.
With regards,
Ramandeep kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite purpose. You request a further six months, explain that your job and attachment to the apartment have changed your plans, and report leaking taps and a shower problem, asking the owner to arrange a plumber. These details make the request understandable and relevant. The explanation is extended with reasons such as your furniture and feeling at home, although the furniture point is less clearly connected to why you want to remain, and the repair request could specify the hot-water issue more precisely. To strengthen the letter further, state the proposed extension directly and make each reason and the requested repair action clear and specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening request, an explanation, a paragraph about the apartment problem, and a courteous closing. The ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and linking phrases such as “because of not only … but also” and “except” help connect information. However, some transitions feel mechanical or are not punctuated clearly: “More over” and “further more” introduce closely related points, while the opening paragraph ends with the incomplete “because.” The relationship between the furniture and the decision to stay is also not fully explicit. Use fewer, more natural connectors and ensure each paragraph develops one clear purpose; this would make the progression smoother and more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main request and describe your reasons and the repair issue, including “emotionally connected,” “facilities,” and “leakage.” However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the message less clear or natural: “amenties,” “feling,” “wonderfull,” and “plumbed” are inaccurate, while “increasing the renting time of stay” and “hard to hotwater” are awkward collocations. The range is also somewhat repetitive, particularly in the repeated references to the apartment and your plans. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common phrases for extending a tenancy and reporting maintenance problems. More precise, natural wording would improve clarity without changing your ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “because of not only … but also” and a sentence explaining your emotional connection to the apartment. However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to follow. For example, “As you may aware” is missing a verb, “now i have plan to stay … because” is incomplete, and “if you send plumbed that they can fix” has an unclear clause structure. There are also problems with articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, as in “there is some leakage and some time it is hard to hotwater.” Practise complete sentence patterns and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb; this will make your meaning more consistently easy to understand.
