Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Anaya,

I hope you are doing well. As you know, I am living in your aparatament from last six months,I want to extend this contract due some reasons.

At the onset, my contract will be finished in next month, I want to extend it upto october 2027 from october 2026. It will be 12months in total, that is why I am requeating you in advance so you can think about it and can tell me your decision about it.

Furthermore, as per my study, I was leave this place next month perhaps my training is held by my university in this province British Columbia near surrey central clinic and this location is near to your apartment. The training is going to start next week and I do not have enough time to think about new accomodation.By keeping in mind the travel distance of this apartment and that location I want to persue this contract.

Additonally, this apartment have some issues such as lights are not working sometimes and the windows need to be deep cleaning I mean from professional cleaners. As I am hygienic person, that's why I want to introduce you this problem and want some actions from yourside.

Finally, I hope you will consider my request and will upgrade this contract.

Your faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points: you request an extension, explain that university training nearby has changed your plans, and report problems with the lights and windows. The requested period is stated clearly as October 2026 to October 2027, and the reason for staying is relevant. The explanation of the training is somewhat difficult to follow, however, particularly “I was leave this place next month perhaps my training is held,” and the apartment problems are mentioned without saying how urgently they need attention. The polite request and closing make the purpose clear. To strengthen the response further, explain the change in plans in a more direct sequence and specify what action you would like the owner to take about each problem.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for the extension, changed plans and apartment issues, and a closing. Sequencing phrases such as “Furthermore,” “Additionally,” and “Finally” help signal the stages of the message. However, these transitions sometimes feel mechanical, and some sentences contain several ideas that are not clearly connected. For example, the training explanation moves from leaving next month to the training location and then to having little time to find accommodation, making the relationship between the details harder to follow. The opening also runs several clauses together. Use shorter, clearly punctuated sentences and connect each explanation directly to the request; this would make the progression more natural and the references easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main purpose and include some task-appropriate expressions, such as “extend this contract,” “training,” and “professional cleaners.” However, a number of spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less natural and occasionally slow the reader: “aparatament,” “requeating,” “accomodation,” and “persue.” Some phrases are also awkward or imprecise, including “introduce you this problem” and “upgrade this contract.” The range is therefore adequate for the topic but not yet consistently controlled. Check spelling carefully and learn natural collocations for requests and repairs. For example, say that you would like to “bring these issues to your attention” and ask the owner to “arrange repairs” or “extend the tenancy.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and “as,” and the intended meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, prepositions and sentence boundaries are noticeable. Examples include “I am living … from last six months,” “I was leave this place,” and “this apartment have some issues.” The opening also joins clauses without adequate punctuation: “from last six months,I want to extend.” These patterns make some sentences difficult to process, even though the reader can usually infer the message. Practise accurate present perfect forms for situations continuing to the present, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence construction. Proofreading for commas and full stops would also improve control.
