Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you about a six-month agreement which expires soon. But, I want to stay longer than the six months since I was a student when I moved here.
Currently, I am in my final semester and it will take four months more for completion .This apartment is near to my college , I have to walk for 15 minutes ,which saves my transportation cost. Due to this , I want to increase the agreement with you .
In this apartment , I am facing a problem related to laundry like dryer , which is not working well , sometimes it stops working during the load .So , I am requesting you to replace with new one .And I hope you will extend the agreement for next four months.
Thank you for your time.
Yours Sincerely,
Raman.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you request a further four months, explain that you are completing your final semester, and report that the dryer sometimes stops during a load. The reason for staying is relevant, and the apartment’s proximity to college and the transport savings support your request. However, the explanation of your changed plans is brief, and the dryer problem could be described more fully—for example, how often it happens or what repair you would accept. The response is also 7 words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more development. A fuller, clearly stated request would make the letter more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: you introduce the agreement, explain why you want to stay, then raise the laundry problem and make your request. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and the reader can follow the main message. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some stronger control through the logical progression. However, links such as “Due to this” and “So” are somewhat mechanical, and the final request combines the dryer replacement and lease extension abruptly. Use more natural transitions and separate the two requests clearly. A more conventional closing paragraph would also help the letter feel more smoothly organised.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main points, with relevant terms such as “final semester,” “transportation cost,” “dryer,” and “agreement.” The reader can understand the request and the problem. However, several choices or combinations are unnatural or imprecise, including “increase the agreement,” “near to my college,” and “replace with new one.” “Problem related to laundry like dryer” is also vague. These issues limit precision and naturalness, although they do not prevent understanding. Aim for more accurate collocations and a slightly wider range of formal letter vocabulary, such as language for extending a lease and requesting a repair or replacement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, including “since I was a student when I moved here” and the explanation that the dryer stops during a load. The main meaning remains clear, which is consistent with this level. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain: “it will take four months more for completion” has an awkward structure, and “I am requesting you to replace with new one” is missing a clear object and article. There are also spacing and sentence-boundary problems, such as “soon. But” and the comma before “which.” Review articles, sentence boundaries, and the structure of requests, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
