Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to formally request you for the extension of my six-month agreement into one year agreement.
Lately, I have got a promotion as per it, my company has offered me to work in the same local firm that is why I have decided to live here because my office is very near to my apartment as well as all the neighbours are very friendly. Moreover, other facilities such as shopping mall, hospital is very close there.
I love all the aminities which are available in my current apartment; however few things like room's window is broken that makes floor wet during heavy rain. Also, frigde is not working properly due to it i have to face many problems.
I would be grateful if you could extend my agreement.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Looking forward to receiving your response.
Yours faithfully,
Harpreet Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you request a longer rental period, explain that a promotion means you will remain with a local firm, and report problems with the window and refrigerator. The requested extension is clear, although “into one year agreement” could leave the exact duration slightly uncertain; state explicitly that you wish to rent for one year in total or for a further six months. Your reasons for staying—proximity to work, friendly neighbours and nearby facilities—support the request, and the apartment problems are relevant. To strengthen the response further, explain the practical impact of the faulty refrigerator or ask the owner to arrange repairs, so this concern is more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the opening makes the request, the next paragraph explains your changed plans, and the following paragraph describes the apartment problems. This gives the reader a logical progression and makes the purpose easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “however” help connect related points, while the closing is appropriate for a formal letter. Some connections are less smooth within sentences, particularly “as per it, my company has offered me…” and “due to it i have to face many problems.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer back more precisely—for example, “As a result of my promotion…” and “Because the refrigerator is unreliable…”—to make cohesion more natural and flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “formally request,” “promotion,” “friendly,” and “consideration.” These choices communicate the purpose and maintain a generally suitable formal tone. There are, however, some inaccurate word choices, collocations and spelling errors that limit precision: “request you for” is not a natural collocation, “aminities” is misspelled, and “frigde” should be “fridge.” “Other facilities” is also vague when referring to a shopping mall and hospital. Choose more precise expressions such as “nearby amenities” and “the refrigerator is not functioning properly.” More accurate spelling and natural combinations would make your vocabulary more effective without needing unusually advanced words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a contrast introduced by “however.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, articles, agreement and punctuation. For example, “into one year agreement” needs an article and a clearer structure, while “shopping mall, hospital is very close” has a plural agreement problem and needs articles. The long sentence beginning “Lately” joins several ideas without clear punctuation, and “due to it i have to face” needs a more controlled clause structure and capitalization. Practise separating linked ideas into complete sentences and checking articles, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
