Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I writing to inform you about my extended stay in one of yours apartments.
Currently, I am on a six-month lease for the apartment number 355, which is located on the North street, West brand. I would like to continue my stay for one year.
I got job in a retaill store, which is the primary reason for extention in my stay As my job is on one year contract basis, so for that I prefer to reviese my agreement with you. Kindly provide me docoments for lease extension for another one year from now, Which is from November 1st 2026 till November 1st 2027.
I never had any issue related to the services and maintianance in the apartment. Unfortunately, the aircondition is not working recently, which cause discomfort in survival. It would be great if you arrange a specilist for this current issue.
I would really appreciate if you could start woking on the paper work regarding the extension as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
Nardeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements clearly: you request a one-year extension, explain that you have obtained a job with a one-year contract, and report that the air conditioner is not working. The dates, “November 1st 2026 till November 1st 2027,” make the requested period specific, and you ask the owner to arrange a specialist. The purpose remains clear throughout, and the details support your request. To make the letter more fully developed, explain briefly why the job means you need to remain in this particular area, and specify whether the air-conditioning problem needs urgent attention. A more direct, polished request for the extension paperwork would also strengthen the letter’s effectiveness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a sensible overall progression: you introduce the extension request, give its reason and dates, then raise the maintenance issue and close with a request for action. Separate paragraphs help the reader distinguish these points, and phrases such as “Unfortunately” signal a shift to the problem. Some links are less smooth or clear, however. The sentence beginning “As my job is on one year contract basis, so…” uses two connectors for the same relationship, and the transition from the job explanation to the paperwork request feels abrupt. The closing repeats the request for paperwork without clearly separating it from the repair request. Use simpler links and make each paragraph’s purpose more distinct.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to renting and maintenance, including “six-month lease,” “lease extension,” “maintenance,” and “specialist,” so the reader can understand the main points. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision and naturalness: “retaill,” “extention,” “reviese,” “docoments,” and “maintianance” are misspelled, while “discomfort in survival” is not an appropriate way to describe the effect of a broken air conditioner. “One of yours apartments” also uses an incorrect form. Aim for accurate, natural collocations such as “extend my lease” and “causing considerable discomfort.” Proofreading spelling and checking phrases in context would make your vocabulary more effective and easier to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences to explain your plans, for example, “I would like to continue my stay for one year” and the sentence giving the reason for the extension. The intended meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction occur across the letter. “I writing” needs a finite verb (“I am writing”), and “I got job” needs an article (“I got a job”). In “As my job is on one year contract basis, so…,” the clause is not formed correctly; use “As my job is a one-year contract, I would like to revise the agreement.” There are also punctuation and capitalization slips, such as the capitalized “Which” after a comma. Practise accurate complex sentences alongside careful proofreading.
