Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Hello Mr. Grover,
My name is Karamjeet Kaur. I am your apartment tenent who is living in boviard location. Earlier, i did an agreement with you to live here for six months only. Now, i want to live here for longer than that period near about one year.
The important reason behind this changes is that i enroll a course. The college is near this apartment which saves my time. Another reason is the apartment, this is on a prime location such as grocery store, shopping centre, bus stops and many more.
However, Instead of all the facilities there is one problem which i face that is duck cleaning. I am suffering with respiratory problem. It is my humble request if you clean it as soon as prossible. Moreover, I am keen to listen about the extension about the agreement.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Your sincerely,
Karamjeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you request an extension, explain that you have enrolled in a nearby course, and report a cleaning problem linked to your respiratory condition. The request to stay for “near about one year” is understandable, and the practical benefits of the location support your explanation. This meets the task well overall, though some points are less fully developed: it is not clear whether you mean one year in total or one additional year, and “duck cleaning” leaves the reported problem unclear. Clarifying the exact rental period and describing the problem precisely would make the letter more complete and purposeful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible order: it introduces the rental agreement and extension request, gives reasons for the change, then raises the apartment problem and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, and connectors such as “Another reason,” “However,” and “Moreover” guide the reader. Some links are mechanical or unclear, however. “However, Instead of all the facilities” does not express the intended contrast naturally, while “Moreover, I am keen to listen about the extension” shifts abruptly from the repair request back to the agreement. Use clearer transitions and connect related details more smoothly—for example, make the cleaning issue a separate paragraph and end with a direct request for confirmation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “agreement,” “prime location,” “respiratory problem,” and “extension.” There are also attempts at more specific language, but several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors make parts of the letter difficult to interpret. “Duck cleaning” is especially unclear, and “keen to listen about” is not a natural way to ask for a response. Other examples include “tenent,” “boviard,” and “prossible.” Choose precise terms for the apartment problem and use conventional phrases such as “I look forward to hearing from you.” Careful proofreading and more natural collocations would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “The college is near this apartment which saves my time” and “It is my humble request if you clean it as soon as prossible.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the important reason behind this changes is that i enroll a course” has problems with number, verb form, and sentence construction; “I am your apartment tenent who is living” is also awkwardly structured. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and the comma after the greeting. Practise accurate past and present forms and build requests with a clear structure, such as “Could you please arrange for this to be cleaned?”
