Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I want to let you know about the decision regarding rental apartment that I have already. As you know I have been living in the entire apartment since last five months, however my rental lease was for only six months and in the upcoming month it is going to be ended, but I want to stay more time.

I want to stay three more months in this apartment because this flat is on walking distance from my study Institution. Along with this, all the basic aminities are provided and library is also very close to the apartment where I can easily go and do my study. Because of these mentioned reasons I have changed my plans for living more time in the same apartment.

However, I want to convey one issue that I have been facing while living in the rental apartment that is hot water issue and elevator access as I live on 16th floor, so sometimes the access to elevator is completely closed by the building premises or manager. If you sort out these issues it would greatful for me.

I hope to hear the best from you very soon.

Yours faithfully,

Lovejeet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you request a further three months, explain that the apartment is convenient for your studies and near a library, and report problems with hot water and elevator access. Your purpose remains clear throughout, and the reasons support your request. To make the letter more fully developed, explain briefly why your study plans have changed or why you need the additional period, rather than mainly repeating the apartment’s advantages. The problem report could also be more precise—for example, say how often the hot water fails and when elevator access is restricted. A direct request for the owner to arrange repairs or confirm an extension would make the intended outcome especially clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: you introduce your request, give reasons, describe the apartment problems, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and linking expressions such as “Along with this,” “Because of these mentioned reasons,” and “However” guide the reader through the points. Some connections are less natural or slightly repetitive, particularly the repeated references to the apartment and the explanation of your reasons in consecutive sentences. The long opening sentence also combines several details that would be easier to follow if divided. Use a more direct sequence—request, reasons, problem, and action sought—and choose linking phrases that express the relationship precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, with relevant terms such as “rental lease,” “walking distance,” “basic amenities,” and “elevator access.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “rental apartment that I have already” is unclear, “stay more time” is not idiomatic, and “I hope to hear the best from you” does not convey a natural closing meaning. There are also spelling and word-form issues, including “aminities” and “greatful.” Aim for standard phrases such as “extend my tenancy,” “stay for a further three months,” and “I would be grateful if you could arrange repairs.” This will make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “however,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors recur in sentence construction, articles, prepositions, and verb forms. For example, “since last five months” needs a different time expression, while “it is going to be ended” uses an awkward passive construction; “it would greatful for me” is also grammatically incomplete. The opening sentence is difficult to control because several clauses are joined together with commas. Practise accurate patterns such as “I have lived here for five months,” “the lease ends next month,” and “I would be grateful if you could…” Shorter, well-punctuated sentences will improve control while you continue using complex structures.
