Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Anoop,

Hope you are doing well.

I am writing this letter to inform you that I would like to extend my rental agreement 2 more months. I was planning to move out as per our plan. Unfortunately, I could not find any other rental property near to my work area. I was planning to move close to my job location for save some money and time. I got one apartment, but last moment he changed his mind and he gave that apartment to someone.

Currently, I got one very close to my work location. But that house is occupied with some other people. Who will move out after 2 months.

Another reason is that, the people who are staying on the upstair increased the temperature very high. So I could not sleep at the night. I already discussed with them. But they did not take any action.

I hope you are understand my situation. Please give me 2 more months extension in our agreement.

yours faithfully,

Sebin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three required points: you request a two-month extension, explain that the alternative apartment will not become available for two months, and report a disturbance from the upstairs residents. The reasons are relevant and the request is clear. The explanation of your changed plans is fairly detailed, including the first landlord changing their mind, but the apartment problem is less fully explained: “increased the temperature very high” is unclear, so the owner may not understand what is happening or what action you want. To strengthen the letter further, state the problem precisely and make a direct request for the owner to investigate or resolve it. The response already covers the task well, but some details need clearer development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: it opens with the purpose, explains your changed housing plans, raises the apartment problem, and closes with the request. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main topics, and phrases such as “Another reason” signal a shift. However, some links and references are difficult to follow. For example, “Currently, I got one very close to my work location. But that house is occupied” leaves the reader to infer that this is the alternative apartment, while “Who will move out after 2 months” is separated from the sentence it explains. Connect these ideas in complete sentences and use clearer references. The organisation is coherent overall, though cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “rental agreement,” “extend,” and “work location.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “near to my work area,” “for save some money,” and “increased the temperature very high” do not express the intended meanings naturally. “That house” is also vague in a letter about an apartment. Choose more precise housing and problem-related language, such as “apartment,” “available,” and “heating.” The message remains understandable, but the noticeable inaccuracies and limited flexibility in phrasing are consistent with this level. Proofreading for natural combinations of words would make the letter more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex forms, for example, “I was planning to move out” and “I could not find any other rental property.” The main message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “I would like to extend my rental agreement 2 more months” (missing “for”), “Who will move out after 2 months” (a fragment), and “I hope you are understand” (incorrect verb form). There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “I got one apartment, but last moment he changed his mind.” Use complete clauses, check verb forms after “hope,” and review articles and prepositions. A wider range of structures is attempted, but more consistent control is needed.
