Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mrs Karla,
I am writing to say that i would like to extend my stay beyond six month. i know we had the agreement for six months stay, but due to some reasons i have to stay in the same city.
i am looking for an extension of my stay for seven months, as this can save me a lot of time and efforts of finding a new place and moving my furniture.
I recently got an offer to join a job as my internship from my college that i have to do at my campus, due to which I have changed my plans to move back to my home city.
Apart from this, I want to inform you about the problem that I am facing regarding the water tap in my bathroom, which is causing me a headache. It has is a leakage of water from its handle, which i want to get fixed as soon as possible. i hope you will understand my situation and accept my request.
i look forward to your prompt reply.
Yours sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you request a further seven months, explain that an internship at your college campus has changed your plans, and report a leaking bathroom tap. Your purpose is clear from the opening, and the reason for staying is relevant and supported by the practical benefit of avoiding another move. The problem is also described specifically enough for the owner to understand what needs attention. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the timing of the internship or why it requires you to remain in the city, and make the repair request more direct—for example, ask when the tap could be inspected. Overall, the key information is present and the reader can understand your request throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the extension request, give its duration and reason, then raise the maintenance issue and close politely. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the main points, and links such as “Apart from this” make the shift to the tap problem clear. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. Some connections are less smooth, however: “due to some reasons” is vague and is immediately followed by a more specific explanation, while “as this can save me…” links the duration to the practical benefit somewhat awkwardly. The final request and closing are also crowded into the same paragraph as the repair details. Clearer transitions and more purposeful paragraphing would make the progression feel more flexible and polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “extend my stay,” “agreement,” “internship,” “moving my furniture,” and “leakage of water.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally appropriate for writing to a landlord. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “join a job as my internship,” “stay in the same city,” and “causing me a headache”; the intended meaning is still understandable, but more natural collocations would improve precision. There are also inconsistent capital letters in “i,” which affects written presentation. Aim to use standard phrases for employment and repairs, and choose wording that describes the inconvenience accurately rather than literally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “I recently got an offer…” and the relative clause describing the tap. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “beyond six month” and “six months stay,” where plural and noun-phrase forms need attention, and “It has is a leakage,” which contains an incorrect verb construction. The long sentence beginning “I recently got an offer” also makes the relationship between the internship and the changed plans difficult to follow grammatically. Capitalisation of “I” and sentence openings is inconsistent, and the closing punctuation is incomplete. Proofreading verb forms, plurals, and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy.
