Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to request you about my extension in living period in your apartment.
Recently, I signed a contract with you for six months because your renting house is located near my office. I want to extend this period about two years because it is a peaceful area thus i want to live in your apartment if you will allow me.
Moreover, my company director has extended my job contract because of this reason i have to stay here for two years. I am comfortable with my organization's environment and salary package is also good for me. So, I do not want to lose this opportunity and want to continue my same job here.
In addition to this, oven is not working properly in your flat and takes longer time to start. Furthermore, as you know I am an employee and i have to wait for longer time to heat the food. So, please resolve this issue as soon as possible.
I hope you would consider my request and extend my living agreement.
I am looking forward for your response.
Yours sincerely,
Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points and maintain a clear, polite request throughout. The intended extension is specific—“about two years”—and you explain the change through your company extending your job contract. You also identify the oven problem and ask the owner to resolve it. These details make the letter relevant and its purpose clear. To strengthen the response further, develop the reasons and practical request a little more: for example, clarify whether the two years would begin after the current agreement ends, and give a specific detail about the oven’s malfunction or suggest arranging a repair. The explanation of your work situation is relevant, though some supporting detail is general rather than fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you introduce the request, explain your plans, describe the apartment problem, and close politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate purposes, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “In addition to this” signal transitions. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of more flexible progression. However, several links feel mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “because” and “So,” and “Furthermore” adds little to the oven paragraph. Improve cohesion by varying how you connect ideas and making cause-and-effect links more direct. For instance, connect the job extension directly to the two-year rental request, then move naturally to the repair issue.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main points, including “extend,” “job contract,” “salary package,” and “resolve this issue.” The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a landlord. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems make the language less natural, such as “request you about my extension,” “renting house,” and “living period.” “Oven is not working properly” is clear, but the description could be more precise. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they limit flexibility and precision. Aim to learn common phrases for rental arrangements and repairs, and choose wording that sounds natural in formal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because” and “if,” and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely obstruct communication. Examples include “I am writing to request you about,” where the verb pattern is incorrect, and “I want to extend this period about two years,” where the duration needs a more accurate grammatical construction. There are also missing articles in “oven is not working” and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” To improve, check verb patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries, especially in longer sentences joined by “because” or “thus.” More consistently accurate control of these forms would make the letter smoother.
