Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Brown,
This is Vishwa Vyas , currently renting your apartment at 62 peregrine rd. I would like to extend my stay here instead of vacating it due to job commitment , so will it be possible to extend my stay here by 6 months?
I know initially we mutually agreed on renting it for 6 months however as I am on a job contract which requires me to extend my term by 6 more months.
only the concern which needs to be addressed is main door lock and keys need replacement. Since a month its been like that and it is a security concern as I have valuables so if I can get a replacement as soon as possible , that would be appreciated.
I am willing to set up a meeting with you so we can mutually sign a new agreeement. Let me know if any issue on my end.
Awaiting your response.
Best regards,
Vishwa

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite purpose. You specify that you want to stay for “6 months” longer, explain that your job contract has changed, and report the security concern with the main-door lock and keys. The request for a replacement and offer to meet to sign a new agreement make the letter practical and relevant. The explanation of the changed plans is clear, although it largely repeats the idea of extending your job term rather than adding detail about why the contract changed. To strengthen the response further, explain the new work commitment more fully and make the requested repair and extension terms especially precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible order: you introduce yourself and request an extension, explain the change in your plans, raise the apartment problem, and close by proposing a meeting. Separate paragraphs help the reader identify each purpose, and phrases such as “however” and “Since a month” attempt to connect ideas. The progression is clear overall, but some links are awkward or incomplete, particularly the transition into “only the concern” and the sentence beginning “I know initially.” The closing also moves quickly from the repair request to a new agreement. Use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one point smoothly to make the organisation feel more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “job commitment,” “security concern,” “valuables,” and “mutually sign a new agreement.” These choices communicate the main points and show some awareness of the formal tone needed in a letter to a landlord. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “extend my term,” “main door lock and keys need replacement,” and “if any issue on my end.” There are also spelling and capitalisation slips, including “agreeement” and “peregrine.” Choose more idiomatic collocations and proofread spelling and proper nouns; this would make the message more precise and polished.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, such as “I know initially we mutually agreed… however as I am on a job contract…” The meaning is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and punctuation are inaccurate. For example, “as I am on a job contract which requires me to extend my term” does not clearly express the changed circumstances, while “Since a month its been like that” has problems with tense and sentence construction. The opening request also joins several ideas with commas rather than clearly separating them. Practise forming complete clauses and using accurate tense patterns, articles, and punctuation; this will improve control without sacrificing the range you are attempting.
