Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Landlord,
I hope you are reading this letter in your best health and wealth.I am writing this letter to request you for extending lease agreement of apartment for one year instead of six months.
I rent this apartment for six month, as I thought I will be done with my office workload in given span but due to some circumstances I need to extend my stay for another half year now .
I just got the promotion at my workplace and need to lead the upcoming projects with some new interns and make them familiar with the system and to complete this process it will almost take another six months. So I decided to continue my stay here only.
I just want to discuss about heating problem that I am facing from last two weeks and would like to request you if you can send techician to solve this issue as winter is getting harsh on everyone here.
I am looking forward to your response and my concern,
Yours Sincerely,
Parth Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, polite purpose. You specify that you want to extend the rental by one year, explain that a promotion and responsibility for training interns have changed your plans, and report a heating problem while requesting a technician. These details make the request relevant and reasonably well supported. The explanation for staying is clear, although the apartment problem could be developed slightly by saying whether the heating has stopped working completely or what effect it is having. The opening and closing are appropriate in intent, but a more natural greeting and a clearer final request for the owner’s reply would make the letter feel more complete and professionally directed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: you make the extension request, explain the change in plans, raise the maintenance issue, and close by seeking a response. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these purposes, and links such as “but,” “and,” and “as” show how ideas relate. This gives the letter a coherent overall arrangement. However, some sentences carry several ideas at once, particularly the explanation about the promotion, interns, and the time needed, so the progression is not always as smooth as it could be. The final phrase, “my concern,” is also unclear as a reference. Use shorter sentences for the explanation and close with a direct request, such as asking the owner to confirm the extension and arrange a repair.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including “extending lease agreement,” “promotion,” “upcoming projects,” and “heating problem.” These choices communicate the main points, and the tone is generally courteous. Some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural in this context, however: “request you for extending” and “in my best health and wealth” do not sound idiomatic, while “techician” contains a spelling error. “Office workload” is also less precise than a phrase describing your new responsibilities. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit naturalness and precision. Aim for standard letter-writing collocations, such as “request an extension,” “I hope you are well,” and “send a technician to inspect the heating.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example the contrast in “as I thought I will be done … but due to some circumstances” and the purpose clause explaining the time needed to train interns. The meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. In “I rent this apartment for six month,” the tense and plural form need correction; “I thought I will be done” also needs a consistent past reporting structure. Articles and sentence boundaries need attention in “I just got the promotion” and “another six months.So.” There are also punctuation and spacing problems, including the missing space after the full stop in “wealth.I.” Review tense consistency, articles, plurals, and punctuation, then proofread for sentence boundaries.
